Read Across America
To combat illiteracy COTV hosts this annual event for Pre-K-8th graders in the Sumter County school system. This program was designed to encourage reading by presenting each student with a book of their choice. Students and teachers celebrate the occasion by dressing up as a "Cat in the Hat" or another cartoon character.

Fairy Tale Mock Trial
Fairy Tale Mock Trial is our anti-bullying program. It is conducted at the Hugh F. Culverhouse Jr. School of Law at the University of Alabama. It is designed to teach 3rd graders about the judicial process, legal careers and the harmful effects of bullying. During a skit based upon a fairy tale such as 'The Three Little Pigs", "Little Red Riding Hood” or “Goldilocks & the Three Bears," students act as jurors, defense counsel and the judge. The students return an official verdict, and discuss the basis for their verdict and the negative effects of being bullied.

Fatal Vision Campaign
Fatal Vision is a educational tool used during prom season to demonstrate the concept of impairment and the dangers of impaired and distracted driving - without the actual fatal results. This program is designed to provide anti-alcohol and anti-drug intervention to dissuade students from drinking, driving and abusing drugs. The theme of this campaign is "I Used to Drink and Drive Until I Lost My Head."

Make-A-Wish Campaign
Helping wishes come true during December is as simple as writing a letter to Santa. Children of the Village Network, Inc., delivers cheer through Macy's "Believe" campaign. The campaign invites citizens to bring letters for Santa to any Macy's store. For each letter collected, Macy's donates $1 to Make-A-Wish®, up to $1 million, to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. The letters are deposited in special, designated Santa Mail letterboxes.

Movie Day
Once a month, COTV hosts a "Movie Day" for 3-5-year-old children. COTV shows a Disney or PBS Daniel Tiger video that is age appropriate. A life size trolley provides an interactive experience for the children. The movie day project is a cost-efficient activity that nurtures the children’s social and cognitive skills. The movie project is a stepping stone to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library provided by Success by 6.
